We are stoked to invite Hea-Mi & Nova of A La Carde as our #waketomakefeature today! Besides the fact that they run a successful Etsy shop & are completely fun, their puns make us giggle. Enjoy their interview today & grab yourselves so goodies!

Hello ladies! Tell us about yourselves!

Hello! We are À La Carde! We currently create handcrafted greetings cards and tote bags illustrating food puns. We met our freshman year at Parsons the New School for Design and became friends quite rapidly through our mutual love for food. We have always looked up to each other's superior craftsmanship and have always given one another handcrafted greetings cards. We always joked about creating our own line, but never actually followed through with it. When we attended an Etsy Craft fair two years ago, we were inspired by other makers to follow through with this silly little dream. After lots of coffee and Chai latte meet ups, here we are!

What makes you want to create? What keeps you going?

With this day and age of convenience at our fingertips, we feel that handwritten notes have been long neglected. We want to bring back handwritten letters through handcrafted cards. What keeps us going at the end of the day is that we're both doing what we love while being surrounded by a huge support system.

What has been the most challenging part of your business?

The most challenging part has been actually selling items! Etsy is huge, and it took us a long time to even receive our first sale. We always try to find new tactics and tricks for getting noticed, but it's easier said then done. We spent a lot of time researching SEO before starting our business. With that being said, Instagram is a a huge platform to reach potential customers, and it's been extremely helpful to our sales.

How can people follow you and keep up on your business?

They should follow us on Instagram and favorite our shop on Etsy!

5. What advice do you have for other, perhaps newer, makers?

We're fairly new to this too, but our best advice is to take advice. Ask around, not just people doing the same job as you but from various perspectives. It was a huge help to us to listen to our friends in different fields. This way you can think about your customer and your business from multiple angles.

Special thanks to Hea-Mi & Nova for being our feature today. Be sure to check out their shop for all your punny needs!
